Nominees were announced for the 2011 BET Awards in April, followed by a glittering awards ceremony which aired from LA on the BET cable channel on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 8 p.m. ET.

Hosting the awards this year was funnyman Kevin Hart, introducing a host of star performances by Chris Brown, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and others when the awards ceremony was broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium.

It was a tie between two of Nigeria finest star: D'banj and Tuface . Other nominees for the category were: Fally Ipupa (Congo DR) D-Black (Ghana), Angelique Kidjo (Benin), and Teargas (South Africa).

Leading the nominee pack this year was Chris Brown, who was up for Best Male R&B Artist, Best Collaboration, Viewer Choice, Video of the Year, and Best Actor for his role in the thriller "Takers." Up for five awards was Lil Wayne, followed by Kanye West, Rihanna, and Drake with four nods each.

This year's BET Awards also honored Patti LaBelle with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Steve Harvey with the Humanitarian Award.
