The first leg of the semi-final game between Chelsea and Barcelona was a classical match; Drogba was incredible. His raw-boned battle with fellow 34-year-old Carles Puyol was like watching two veteran cavemen slug it out for the spoils to take back to the weaker members of the family. But the biggest trophy came Drogba’s way when he raced into the box on the cusp of half-time and put the finishing touch to the brilliant counterattack that began when Frank Lampard robbed Lionel Messi of possession and set Ramires free with a brilliant first-time pass than he will remember in his dotage.
Drogba proved to the difference between the two sides, despite the visitors missing a host of chances, and Terry was full of praise for the Ivorian. The question is can Chelsea do the same with Barcelona at Camp Nou. John Terry insisted he was confident Chelsae will reach the Champions League final after beating Barcelona 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in their semi-final first leg.
Drogba, meanwhile, explained that he felt the Blues felt they had learnt their lessons from 2009 when they were eliminated by Barcelona and was delighted with the result.
“I think we learnt [from the 2009 defeat]. We improved from three years ago because we didn’t concede that goal,” he added.
“We are just happy for the result. It’s a good one, 1-0 at home, is a good result. We will go here and try to score another goal and qualify.”
