FUNMI IYANDA DAZZLES AT MONTE CARLO TELEVISION FESTIVAL

As reported earlier, Iyanda was nominated in the ‘Best News Documentary’ category for ‘Lagos Stories’ an episode of ‘My Country Nigeria’; her three-part documentary on Nigeria. ‘Lagos Stories’ was broadcast in October 2010 on BBC World as part of the “My Country Nigeria” series commemorating Nigeria’s 50th Independence anniversary.

Funmi attended the festival with a delegation from the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism. These included Mr. Ilemakin Soyinka, Director of the Lagos State Film Office, Mr. Ashamu Fadipe, Permanent Secretary Lagos State Ministry of Tourism,Mr. Dapo Awobotu, Executive Secretary Lagos State Films and Censors Board. Also in attendance was Mr. Chris Dada who is co-producer and director of ‘Lagos Stories’.

Winners that emerged from the ‘Best News Documentary’ category are ‘Revolution on the March’ produced by France Televisions – France 2 and ‘Laugh it Away and Say Goodbye’ produced by Chibbun Nipo Broadcasting corp.

The prestigious Monte-Carlo Television Festival is an annual global television festival established by Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1961 to celebrate the best in worldwide television programming. The festival’s news Competition rewards outstanding documentaries that combine fascinating social and cultural topics with a high level of technical expertise.
